Shaun Popel, Research Practitioner

Shaun Popel, researcher

Shaun Popel is a Research Practitioner within the Bristol Dementia Wellbeing Service, which provides support to people living with dementia, family carers and health professionals in the Bristol area.

Shaun coordinates all aspects of research the service is involved in. As such, Shaun is involved in considering study set-up and feasibility through to promotion, recruitment and actual research activity.

Shaun is usually involved in 4 or 5 different dementia research projects at any one time. These projects may be of varying health, academic disciplines and topics reflecting the intricacies and scope of dementia research. Some recent examples of activity include promotion and recruitment for a study considering whether measuring EEG can assist in an earlier dementia diagnosis to a project exploring how accessing dementia assessment could be facilitated for minority communities.

Shaun enjoys speaking to service users and carers and hearing about research involvement has benefitted them. Whether by improving their personal health and wellbeing, giving meaningful activity and the knowledge that research participation has given them the potential to help future generations.
