Ruth Newman, Senior Research Practitioner
Dr Ruth Newman is a Senior Research Practitioner and has been in the research team at Devon Partnership NHS TRust since 2012. She has worked in several research areas in her life in Cardiff and New Zealand but is now specialising in clinical trials in dementia testing the effectiveness of both new medications and new therapies for patients and carers. The primary endpoints, i.e how we show whether an intervention works, are usually specific cognitive assessments, (also called rating scales).
Since 2015 Ruth has been a Practice Rater Lead for the Southwest region and completed two regional teaching secondments for the National Institute of Health Research.
Ruth is keen to contribute to high quality studies which hopefully in future will delay the progression of this debilitating neuro degenerative condition and enable an improved quality of life for both patients and carers. Part of her passion is helping to increase the skills and confidence of other researchers so we can deliver more studies over more sites here in the Southwest.
