Overview

The SPACES study is looking to see if a group physical activity intervention can improve the lives of people with severe mental ill health.

We are looking for adults to join a 12- month research study created specifically for people with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, or those getting early help for psychosis in EIP services.

The next group session will be held in Exminster on Thursday 25 September 2pm-4pm.

If you're interested, please get in touch with us and we can see if you're suitable for the study 01392 674117.

Summary

SPACES is a randomised control trial, meaning that people that take part will be 'randomly allocated either to 'active' intervention arm or a control arm.  The active intervention is a 18-week activity programme which will include education about getting active, social time, and additional 1:1 support.

The purpose of this study is to test a programme to increase physical activity. The study has been created with people with bipolar, schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder, people who support them (carers), and professionals involved in physical activity and severe mental ill health.

The World Health Organisation has said that being more physically active can have as big a positive impact on health as stopping smoking.
