Overview

We're working alongside the University of Exeter on the ADEPT+ Feasibility Trial - Development and Feasibility of Augmented Depression Therapy for Complex Depression (ADepT+): A randomised, controlled feasibility trial.

It is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research, and ran by the University of Exeter Accept clinic.

If you are someone with 'complex depression', and you live in Devon, you may be able to take part.

Summary

ADepT is a novel psychological therapy that aims to build wellbeing and alleviate depression symptoms, to focus on individuals with complex depression. This study looks at feasibility of using ADepT for treating depression alongside difficulties managing emotions, relationships or sense of self.

Together these difficulties are called 'complex depression'. The findings of this study will help us plan for a larger, future trial of the therapy that will be able to say whether or not it would be a helpful addition to the care that is currently available in the NHS for people with complex depression. We plan to include 60 people in the current study.

If you take part you will receive either the new talking therapy in addition to your usual care, or your usual care without the new therapy. Half of those who take part will receive the new therapy, and whether you do is determined at random.

If you receive the new therapy you will be offered up to 20 individual therapy sessions of ADepT+ therapy that has been specifically designed to support people experiencing complex depression. The sessions can be face to face, online or by phone. Everyone for takes part will be asked to complete sets of questionnaires at several points over a 20 month period.

It is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research, and ran by the University of Exeter Accept Clinic.

If you're interested in taking part, or for more information, please contact adept-plus@exeter.ac.uk or call 01392 726101. The chief investigator on this study is Laura Warbrick. l.a.warbrick@exeter.ac.uk 01392 722420.
