Volunteers' Week: Where giving meets belonging, volunteering with DPT
Volunteering is about more than just giving time, it is about being part of something meaningful. Across our services, volunteers bring warmth, connection and a human touch that complements everything our dedicated staff do every day. Whether it’s a friendly conversation, a helping hand or simply being present, volunteers play a vital role in shaping the experience of care for our patients and their families. We also know that the interactions support the health and wellbeing of our colleagues.
Recently, we have had the privilege of capturing some of those special moments on film at Franklyn Hospital. From quiet acts of kindness in the garden to the laughter shared in conversation, our camera has found stories worth telling, real people making a real difference. These glimpses into everyday volunteering life remind us why this work matters so much and we are proud to share them as part of our short film.
Franklyn Hospital provided the perfect backdrop for this project. Its community spirit and the genuine relationships formed between volunteers, staff and patients gave us no shortage of powerful and uplifting moments to document. What struck us most was how naturally volunteers fit into the fabric of the hospital not as visitors passing through, but as valued members of the team.
Volunteers give their time not because they have to, but because they choose to and that choice makes a real difference. Across our services, volunteers bring connection, compassion and practical support, standing alongside staff and helping shape the experience of care. Volunteering is not a one-way gift; it strengthens our services, supports our teams and can be life-changing for volunteers themselves. So, if you are reading this or watching our film and thinking about giving something back, there’s a place for you.
