Open Up’s Christmas Hamper Project returns

As the festive season edges closer, our charity Open Up, are pausing to reflect on a project that has become a cornerstone of their work in the community.
The Children and Family Health Devon Christmas Hamper Project began in 2020 with a simple idea: to brighten the holidays for young people in care and care leavers who might otherwise find this time of year especially difficult.
What started with 100 hampers quickly grew into something far bigger. Each year, with the backing of supporters across Devon and Torbay, the project has reached more families, spreading warmth, kindness and a powerful message that every young person matters. By 2024, 250 hampers were delivered, each one a small bundle of joy and reassurance for those receiving it.
Behind the numbers lies a deeper story. The Hamper Project has shown how collective generosity can transform what could be an isolating time into one filled with hope and belonging. It has also become a reminder for all of us that community is strongest when we come together.
Now, as they prepare for Christmas 2025, they are building on this foundation. By starting early, they aim to extend the project's reach even further, ensuring that more young people and young adults feel valued and remembered. Early donations, offers of time and community support will allow them to create hampers that are not only festive but also filled with care and thoughtfulness.
Hamper Project is more than a seasonal campaign. It is a commitment to stand alongside young people, to let them know that their community sees them, cares for them and celebrates them.
