Learning Disability Week 2026: 'Do You See Me?'
Today we mark the start of Learning Disabilities Week and this year’s theme is 'Do You See Me?' - which is about being seen, heard and valued.
Gabby Dawson is a Business Support Administrator with the Community Learning Disabilities Team. She has recorded some short videos to shed a light on her role and what it means to her. We will be sharing the videos on our social media channels throughout the week.
"Although my work is not clinical, I play a vital part in helping ensure the best possible care is provided to every individual who accesses our service. Behind the scenes, business support helps keep services running smoothly so clinicians can focus on delivering care and service users receive the support they need.
This year’s theme is 'Do You See Me?' which to me highlights the importance of recognising people with learning disabilities for who they are, seeing the individual, their strengths, voices and experiences, rather than defining them by their disability.
"Working within the Learning Disabilities team has also shown me how important multidisciplinary support is and how much of a difference collaboration makes, we all work together to make the cogs go round. Most importantly, it has shown me how incredible people with learning disabilities are their individuality, resilience and achievements deserve to be recognised and celebrated.
"Accessibility matters and creating inclusive services helps ensure everyone has equal opportunities to be heard, supported and valued.
"I’m proud to play my part in supporting our Community Learning Disabilities Team and the people we work alongside every day."
