Celebrating Pharmacy Technician Day 2026

Today, we are celebrating Pharmacy Technician Day and recognising the valuable contribution pharmacy technicians make across our services.

Pharmacy technicians are registered healthcare professionals and an integral part of our Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation Team. Across our organisation, they support safe and effective medicines use, medicines optimisation, patient safety, service improvement, digital development, education and professional leadership.

Our pharmacy technicians contribute in inpatient, community and specialist settings. Their work includes supporting medicines reconciliation and optimisation, clozapine services, physical health activity, medicines governance, electronic prescribing and medicines administration, quality improvement, workforce education and the development of future pharmacy professionals.

We are also proud of our developing Pharmacy Technician Career Pathway. It provides a visible route from Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician through registered, experienced, specialist, advanced and strategic leadership roles. The pathway supports professional development while helping us build a skilled, confident and sustainable pharmacy technician workforce.

Jennifer Whitefoot, Chief Pharmacy Technician, said: “Pharmacy technicians bring expertise, professionalism and compassion to every area of their work. Pharmacy Technician Day gives us an opportunity to recognise their achievements and celebrate the difference they make for people using our services, colleagues and the wider organisation every day.”

Thank you to all our pharmacy technicians and trainees for your dedication, innovation and continued commitment to safe, person-centred care.
