Mindful Employer Charter
Join our growing community of Charter signatories
Supporting mental health at work is an ongoing commitment, and the Mindful Employer Charter provides a way for your organisation to show that commitment and put it into practice.
The Charter is open to all employers across the UK, regardless of how much you already have in place to support mental health at work. What matters isn’t how your organisation compares with others, but your commitment to supporting the mental health of your people. Through the Charter, we’ll also help you reflect on your progress and continue to develop your approach.
What does it mean to sign the Charter?
The Charter is not an accreditation or quality mark. You don't need to have reached a particular standard before signing. Instead, your organisation makes a public commitment to support mental health at work by agreeing to uphold the following values:
• To take a proactive, non-judgemental approach to supporting mental health at work.
• To avoid making assumptions about someone’s ability to work because of their mental health.
• To support managers to recognise and respond to mental health needs in the workplace.
• To promote fair and inclusive recruitment where mental health is not a barrier to opportunity.
• To create a workplace where people feel safe to be open about their mental health.
What are the benefits of signing the Charter?
As a Charter signatory, you’ll have access to resources, support, and other benefits to help you strengthen your approach to mental health at work, including:
• Recognition as a Charter signatory on our website.
• Use of the Mindful Employer logo for your website and other materials.
• A personalised Charter featuring your organisation’s name, logo, and signing details.
• Tailored feedback on your policies and practices through your Charter review.
• Access to our Line Managers Resource Guide and Keeping Well at Work publications.
• A 10% discount on Mindful Employer training workshops.
• Eligibility to register for our Mindful Employer Plus Employee Assistance Programme.
What is a Charter review?
Charter reviews are your opportunity to reflect on your organisation’s approach to mental health at work and recognise the progress you’re making. They take place every two years as part of renewing your Charter.
Rather than being an inspection or an assessment against a set of standards, they’re designed to help you consider your current policies and practices and identify where you could develop further.
We’ll then provide tailored feedback on your review, with practical suggestions to help you strengthen your approach.
