Devon adult autism intervention team

  • We are a specialist service supporting adults with autism across Devon, including Plymouth and Torbay. We’re part of the wider health and social care system and aim to work closely with the person's existing support network, including health, social care, and community teams.

    How we can help

Our main focus is to help adults with autism stay well and supported in their community.

    We aim to:

    • Prevent people from being admitted to hospital when it's not necessary
    • Help reduce the time someone spends in hospital, if they are admitted
    • Support people to stay in their current home or placement, including family homes
    • Help the person and those supporting them to understand:
    • How autism may be affecting their daily life and stability
    • What's getting in the way of support, and how autism might be a part of those challenges

If someone meets the referral criteria, we offer support through a three-tiered model:

    • Tier 1: Advice and signposting - we offer basic guidance or point people in the right direction
    • Tier 2: Consultation and training - we support the person's team with advice and possible training
    • Tier 3: Assessment and short-term support - we offer autism-related assessments and focused, time-limited interventions.

    What we cannot offer

We know that new services can create a lot of expectations, so we want to be clear about what we can't offer.

    We do not provide:

    • Care coordination: We're not a keyworker or care coordinator - we work alongside the person's existing team, not instead of them. Our involvement is always short-term.
    • Crisis or emergency support: We're not a crisis service and can't respond urgently.
