    How we can help

We provide treatment, care and advice to people who are experiencing behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia and who require assessment and treatment in hospital.

We encourage carers and relatives to be involved in this process.

The team also has close links with older people's mental health teams and other health and social care providers in communities across Devon.

  • Service category 1
  • Visiting hours 2.00pm-5.00pm. Please avoid visiting at 12.30pm when lunch is being served. Other times can be arranged with ward staff.

During your stay

During the first few days, we will spend time getting to know you, show you around and allocate you a named nurse. You will be provided with more information about the ward and about your care and treatment. The ward is supported with a programme of leisure and creative activities.

We will work with you to develop your personalised care plan which will be regularly reviewed. We encourage family members, carers or advocates to be present and involved in this process.

What to expect

  • You will be called by your preferred name
  • You will be addressed politely
  • You will not share sleeping areas, bathrooms or toilets with members of the opposite sex
  • Staff will uphold your dignity at all times
  • Staff will actively listen to any concerns you may have and do their best to resolve them with you
  • We will always request permission or knock to enter your room
  • We will work with you to support you in achieving your own goals.

Leaving Belvedere

Before leaving Belvedere you will be allocated someone to support your ongoing care. They will work closely alongside you, your family and supporters to make sure that you get everything you need and that you are clear about what is happening.

Home treatment team

Early discharge is supported by our home treatment team in conjunction with our ward staff.

When appropriate, following your admission they will:

  • Discuss your care plan with your named nurse, ward doctor and consultant
  • Discuss with you whether this care can be provided at home
  • Make contact with your nearest relative or carer and also speak to your care coordinator.

The length of your stay will be determined by your needs and we will aim to discharge you as soon as possible.

We are always striving to improve what we do and, when you are discharged from our care, we may ask you to complete a short questionnaire.
