New system means faster access to mental health crisis support in Devon

If you or someone you care about is experiencing a mental health crisis, help is now easier to reach.

Our First Response Service (FRS) has introduced a new telephony system designed to make your experience faster, simpler and more supportive.

If you're in crisis, just call NHS 111 and select the mental health option. You'll be connected directly to a trained professional who will listen, support, and guide you to the help you need - including referral to other services if appropriate.

The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for anyone living in Devon (excluding Plymouth) who is experiencing a mental health crisis or is concerned about someone's mental wellbeing. If you can't make the call yourself, a friend, family member, carer or your GP can call on your behalf.

James O'Brien, Interim Service Manager for the First Response Service, said: We're really pleased to introduce the new telephony system which we hope will enable people in crisis to get the support they need, when they need it.

The new system offers helpful new features including call-back options, text message and video conferencing and a video relay service via the SignVideo app for those who are deaf or hard of hearing.

I'd especially like to thank the people with lived experience who helped co-produce the new welcome message for callers.
NHS 111 First Response Service is here for you 24/7, 365 days a year.
