New contract and hours for crisis cafes in Devon
We're pleased to share that our partnership with Mental Health Matters (MHM) will continue under a new contract to deliver crisis café services across Devon.
Crisis cafés remain a vital part of our support offer-providing safe, welcoming spaces for people aged 18+ who may be struggling, especially during hours when other services aren't available. No referral or appointment is required.
From Wednesday 1 October, the opening hours for the crisis cafes across Devon will change as part of the new contract.
The Moorings - Barnstaple:
Wednesday to Sunday, between 4pm and 10pm, for face-to-face and virtual support.
Monday and Tuesday, 4pm to 10pm, for virtual support only.
The Moorings - Exeter:
Friday to Tuesday, between 4pm and 10pm, for face-to-face and virtual support.
Wednesday and Thursday, 4pm to 10pm, for virtual support only.
The Moorings - Torquay:
Open 7 days a week, 4pm to 10pm, for face-to-face and virtual support.
The new contract better reflects the peaks in demand when support is most needed and follows a comprehensive review of the service including feedback from those who use the service, carers, staff and stakeholders.
As we bolster our First Response Service, we'll continue to ensure that people in Devon have access to urgent mental health support when they need it.
As well as the crisis café provision, people struggling with their mental health or worried about that of someone they know, can also contact:
- NHS 111 option 2 (available 24/7)
- Samaritans - call 116 123 or email jo@samaritans.org (24/7)
- Shout - text 'Shout' to 85258 (free, 24/7)
- The Devon Mental Health Alliance offers a number of free and low cost activities across Devon and Plymouth including mental health and recovery drop-in sessions where people can enjoy a drink and a chat
