Highly Commended win for South West Provider Collaborative at HSJ Awards
Work to transform community forensic services across the region has been recognised at this year's Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards.
Our South West Provider Collaborative (SWPC), which commissions adult secure services amongst other specialist mental health services, received a highly commended accolade in the Provider Collaboration of the Year category on Thursday, 20 November.
The judging panel described the achievement as 'a tremendous example of collaborative working, delivering significant and tangible benefits capable of being replicated at scale across the NHS.'
They praised the project for 'evidencing the transformation impact collaboration can have in supporting the shift from hospital to community,' noting that mental health services are 'paving the way on how collaboration should work.'
The award recognises the SWPC's continued growth and its commitment to improving the experience of people who use secure mental health services across the south west.
The development of the teams has led to an improved patient and family/carer experience, with effective admission avoidance, reduced length of hospital stays and enhanced discharge and community support.
These improvements have also contributed to a significant reduction in occupied bed days, enabling financial savings that have been reinvested across the region.
Judges were particularly impressed by the outcomes achieved, highlighting that 93% of patients are now looked after in the region, with £10m of savings reinvested into community alternatives.
They recognised the leadership challenge in working with a complex client group and noted the remarkable achievements of the team, commending their skill, dedication and passion.
Anne Forbes, Director of Collaborative Commissioning, SWPC: We are extremely proud to have received a highly commended award for our work in this area. At the heart of this marks the significant difference our teams have made to individuals across our region who are receiving care and treatment from our partners.
A huge well done to all of those involved - from our staff to service users and families and carers - for receiving this national recognition. We remain committed to continually improving the experiences and outcomes of the people and communities we serve.
