Your role as a mental health nurse

As a mental health nurse, you will care for people with a range of mental health conditions, from anxiety to severe disorders like schizophrenia. Your main duties include assessing, supporting, and treating patients, often working alongside psychiatrists, psychologists, and peer support workers.

Key responsibilities

  • You will help create care plans, administer medication, and provide therapies like cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
  • Educating patients and their families on coping strategies is also important.

Our Together approach

At Devon Partnership NHS Trust, we follow a co-production approach called Together. This means you will work alongside people with lived experience to improve services and care.

Building relationships and providing support

Your role involves building trusting relationships, offering emotional support, and responding to crises like self-harm or suicidal thoughts. You will also advocate for patients' rights and promote mental health awareness.

Opportunities for growth

You will have opportunities to:

  • Support new nurses and contribute to service improvements
  • Stay updated with ongoing training and professional development.

Your career as a qualified mental health nurse

If you are a qualified mental health nurse, Devon Partnership NHS Trust offers many opportunities for career growth.
