The role of an HCA is an extremely dynamic and rewarding career. Responsibilities vary from engaging and supporting patients in discussing their mental health needs; to taking people out on leave to support recovery and social integration.

No previous experience is required to become a HCA. We are simply looking for people who are passionate about helping others and providing excellent care to our patients.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What is the schedule of the recruitment day?

The event will include a morning session with information about working as a HCA at Devon Partnership NHS Trust. In the afternoon, there will be panel interviews, where you will have the chance to be hired on the spot. 

The full schedule for the day will be as follows:

  • 09:30 - Arrival 
  • 09:45 - 10:00 - Welcome
  • 10:00 - 12:00 - Group Sessions / Presentations
  • 12:00 - 12:30 - Q&A
  • 12:30 - 17:00 - Panel Interviews (15 minutes)

You will be allocated an interview time in advance of the recruitment day.

What qualifications do I need to be a HCA?

The role of Healthcare assistant doesn't require any formal care experience as training will be provided.

Desirable qualifications include:
GCSE Maths and English or equivalent
Computer literate
Competent written and verbal skills
Able to work in a team environment
Previous experience in a care setting, an NVQ 2 in Health Care or NVQ 3 in Direct Care experience.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Does working as a HCA involve shift work?

Yes, working as a healthcare assistant will involve shift work. This role may be on a ward that operates on a 24/7 shift basis and therefore you may qualify for unsocial enhancements in addition to your basic pay.

Do you offer full time or part time hours?

We are recruiting for a number of Healthcare assistants to join our team at Langdon Hospital. Both full time and part time roles are available.
