For prescribers and professionals

Medicines in Mental Health

Our Medicines Optimisation Team produce a range of guidance and supporting documents to support professionals in using medicines in mental health.

This page can provide prescribers and other healthcare professionals, involved in treatment where medication is offered, with the information and guidance they need to ensure medication is optimised for each person, to support personalised and recovery-focused care.

The Medicines Information Helpline on 01392 674900 is for people in Devon only. Please contact your local trust for information from your area.

Choice and Medication

The Choice and Medication website offers information about mental health conditions and the medications used in the mental health setting to help make informed decisions about treatment and medication.

In addition to the 'Choice and Medication' site detailed above, information is available on the following websites:

  • HeadMeds gives young people general information about mental health medication
  • Unforgettable is a dementia website full of products to try and allow someone with dementia to continue to live independently for as long as possible
  • Bumps for information about mental health medicines in pregnancy

We offer a medicines information telephone helpline which is available for people who use our services and their carers, if they have any questions or concerns about medication and would like to discuss this with a specialist mental health pharmacist.
