“Football keeps me on an even keel. It gives me something positive, like, at the end of the week you think ‘Yeah! We’ve got football today!’ and it sort of lifts you up a bit and makes you happy. You see all the lads, we all have a great time, a good laugh. A lot of it is seeing your friends and socialising as well as playing.
“It’s given me structure in my life. If I didn’t have football I would get depressed. With such a long time not playing football, I’d probably slip back into depression and things get worse from there, don’t they? They escalate from there. You’ve got to have something in your life that you totally love to do.”
