The Community Forensic Team (CFT) plays a lead role in managing patient flow through the secure hospital system, with an emphasis on reducing admissions to secure hospital and avoiding unnecessary delays whilst in a secure setting. It also provides training, consultation and liaison across the forensic service network and for partner agencies in order to increase resilience and improve the overall capacity to manage patients at the least restrictive level of security.
The aim of the CFT is to reduce or safely manage patients whose mental health and behaviour may put members of the public at risk, and would thereby otherwise lead to contact with the criminal justice system or admission to a secure hospital.
The Community Forensic Team consists of Mental Health Practitioners with appropriate clinical qualifications and registration (OT, Nursing, and Social Work), Clinical/Forensic Psychologists, Peer Support Workers, Consultant Forensic Psychiatrists, Rehab Lead, Assistant Practitioners and Administration staff.
