OASIS - Overdose and Self Injury Service

This Devon Partnership NHS Trust service for people aged 18+ in North Devon provides short to medium term therapeutic input to people who have used overdose or self-injury to manage emotional pain or distress.

Everybody is different and has a different reason for using self-injury or overdose. Whilst there are likely to be some common themes we aim to provide a safe and understanding environment for you to explore your particular difficulties.

We realise that this is a stressful and difficult time and will treat you with respect and care. OASIS staff are all qualified mental health professionals, such as occupational therapists and psychotherapists, who are experienced in helping people who have self-harmed.

About the service we provide

We see people who have attended A&E due to overdose or self-injury. Our service is for people over 18 who live in North Devon. Normally you will be referred by the mental health team at the hospital.

We aim to see you as soon as possible after referral. We will send out a letter to you and ask that you contact us by phone or email to make an appointment

What can you expect from OASIS

The service operates during office hours (Mon-Fri), we will endeavour to arrange an appointment at a time that suits you.

At our first meeting we will discuss your individual circumstances and what difficulties you are experiencing. Some people just want or need a one off meeting and others may need more; if this is the case then at this initial appointment we will discuss what treatment options would be suitable for you.

We understand that self-harm is often a way of managing what feels like overwhelming emotions. We believe that people can benefit from the opportunity to talk about what their difficulties are and how it may be possible to manage these in a less damaging way.

If you have been assessed in A&E and would like to talk to someone please leave a message on the number below and we will contact you to offer you an initial appointment.
