Wildlife cameras, which are part of the Langdon Hospital Hedgerow and Orchard Project, have captured more wonderful footage recently.
Alex Watkins, Technical Instructor, said: "Over the past six months, we have utilised wildlife cameras to document a rich variety of local wildlife, including badgers, foxes, deer, rabbits, dormice, rats, dragonflies, pheasants, and various birds. During the past two months staff and patients have been using nature therapy sessions to locate wildlife cameras at different sites at the Langdon Hospital Hedgerow Project. They have had particular success near earth bank works, and have captured foxes on several occasions.
"Currently, our monitoring efforts focus on the hedgerow, but we plan to extend observations to additional areas of the hospital grounds while prioritising security. We also aim to install a nesting box with an in-built camera. The footage collected has provided valuable insights into the hedgerow ecosystem, which will inform our efforts to enhance this area and establish a new orchard.
"Patient involvement in the project is growing, with weekly visits to check the wildlife cameras encouraging participation. Attendance has risen, with five enthusiastic participants actively engaged. Those who remain in the wards also enjoy secondary involvement. This initiative has sparked new interests for patients in their activities. We are also excited to announce that we have been shortlisted for an NHS Forest award in the collaborative green space projects category, with results to be announced later this year."
