The first ever Devon Partnership Trust Santa Run took place at Langdon, Dawlish last Wednesday, 6 December, and what a fantastic event it was – well organised and well supported by both Langdon patients and staff, and colleagues from other offices too. We hope this is the first of many such events – the Langdon Sports Workers (pictured above) should be very proud of themselves.
The event saw 93 participants embrace the festive spirit and cross the finish line in Santa hats and Christmas attire. With a choice of running or walking either 5 km or 2.5 km there was a course to suit everyone’s fitness levels.
Chloe Rosser, an Occupational Therapist on Ashcombe at Langdon, took first place in the 2.5 km run with a time of 8.21.
Laura Hobbs, Head of CQC Compliance and Equality and Diversity, led the way to the finish line over the 5 km distance.
Congratulations to Sports Worker Jack Phillips who came up with the idea of a Santa Run, to Senior Occupational Therapists Lizzie Bush and Mike Feighan, and everyone else who played a part in making it such a successful event.
Lizzie comments on behalf of the team: “A huge thank you to everyone who attended and supported the Santa Run. Everyone appeared to enjoy the event with many commenting on how nice it was to see patients and staff come together and engage in something fun. After the run people socialised over mince pies and hot drinks that were kindly provided to us by Sainsburys.
“We also have a signed Exeter Chiefs 2016-2017 season top and signed Jonny Wilkinson DVD up for auction (these will come as a pair). If you are interested in placing a silent bid, please contact jack.phillips2@nhs.net with your maximum offer before Friday 22 December.
“Following the auction we will hopefully have raised close to £950!! This will be matched by Barclays Bank so we can expand the sports equipment at Langdon to improve the standard of meaningful occupations and physical activities we offer to our patients. We hope everyone saves their Santa hats for next year!”
Sarah Burford, Managing Partner at the Dewnans says: “I absolutely loved it and was so impressed by the ‘slick’ professional organisation of the event. Thanks to Lizzie and Jack who clearly know how to host an event. The support across site and from our colleagues off site was awesome. Seeing so many patients and staff engaging in rich conversations and enjoying themselves as part of a joint Xmas fundraising was fantastic. Well done everyone - a day to remember - and yes, let’s make this an annual event… maybe fewer hills though!”
