Track Andrew as he starts his channel swim

Posted by Devon Partnership Trust in News on 16th July, 2020

Andrew Butler, from the North and Mid Devon STEP team begins his English Channel swim this evening at around 7pm. He will be swimming into the sunset, throughout the night into sunrise and throughout Friday.

Witnessing his son and daughter-in-law's journey, following the birth of their daughter who was born with a life threatening condition became the catalyst for Andrew to support organisations and charities that offered support and stability at this traumatic time for his family.

However, upon meeting an open water swimmer in 2017 who took on the challenge of swimming the channel to raise funds for charity, inspired Andrew to raise his fundraising game. Since then Andrew has undertaken numerous incredible swimming challenges. He didn't let lockdown get in the way of his training either and installed a pop up pool and tethering system to enable him to swim on the spot.

Andrew is hoping to raise £8K and has reached just over 50% of his target, for the following charities:

Ronald McDonalds Bristol
North Devon Care for Kids
Kidney Research UK
The North Devon Wave Project

You can read more about Andrew's story here and track his progress across the channel here. Select Anastasia from the Boat drop down list. And see updates on Facebook along the way.

Good luck Andrew!
