Thank you to Elaine, 99, our charity kayaker

Elaine, 99, kayaks for our charityIn November 2021, incredible 99-year-old Elaine challenged herself to paddle on the Exeter canal from Turf Locks to Countess Wear in a single kayak. It took about two hours raising an incredible £2,039 for the DPT Charity.

This was an incredibly hard challenge for Elaine, not only because of her age, but her loss of eye sight and the unpredictable headwind on the day, which meant that she tired quickly. Unfazed, she was spurred on by the immense encouragement throughout and the people that helped make this happen.

Elaine said: "I was absolutely thrilled with the number of people who gave such wonderful support, both on dry land and on the water, where I was joined by two of my grandchildren, one great-grandson and also some friends, six boats in all. The best bit was being able to give back to the NHS which has given me so much in the past, but personally as an avid bird watcher it was great being so close to the swans and seeing lapwings fly overhead."

Elaine is an inspiring lady, who took on an unbelievable feat. If you would still like to show your support visit her Just Giving page here.
