The Devon Wellbeing Hub are pleased to announce that due to the success of their pilot ‘Embrace your Plate’ course, they will be running another in January 2024.

Embrace your plate: shaping healthy perspectives is a eight-week course that is designed to support individuals who would like to have a more relaxed, balanced and guilt-free relationship with food and eating.

Starting on Monday 8 January, the course will be delivered by accredited Nutritionist and Trainee Health Psychologist, Olivia Palmer. Colleagues working in healthcare, social care and the police across Devon are welcome to sign up, no matter what your role.

The course aims to empower participants to develop a healthier relationship with food, their bodies and themselves, whilst cultivating psychological flexibility and self-compassion. It will also devote time to setting realistic goals to support with individual and personalised health targets and wellness aspirations.

The course will include eight core principles:

  • You and your values
  • Unpacking nutrition
  • The psychology of eating
  • The role of thoughts, feelings and emotions
  • Body image and the world around us
  • Behaviour change: opportunity and motivation
  • Self-acceptance and self-compassion
  • Strategies for success

To begin, you will be invited to join a 60-minute MS Teams meeting which will provide an overview of the course and bring you together as a group. Thereafter there will then be weekly MS Teams sessions and you will also be invited to join a WhatsApp group which will be a confidential space for you to ask questions to your peers and Olivia, as well as to support one another throughout the programme.

You will need to commit to attending the meetings and participating in group activities as much as you comfortably can. The course will encourage open and honest discussions, but it’s essential to remember that what’s shared remains confidential.

If you would like to join this course, or have any questions, please email Olivia at olivia.palmer1@nhs.net and she will send you the pre-survey. Please note the course is limited to 12 spaces, so if you’re interested please do get in touch as soon as possible.
