Jo is preparing to take on the Saltash Half Marathon in memory of her friend and colleague, Kelly, who tragically lost her life following a courageous struggle with postnatal depression. Through this deeply personal and meaningful challenge, Jo is raising funds for our charity Open Up’s Little Something Fund, which supports women and families in their recovery from perinatal mental health difficulties.
Kelly gave birth to her son Josh nearly four years ago and, like many new mothers, experienced the overwhelming impact of postnatal depression. During this time, she received care and support at Jasmine Lodge, our specialist Mother and Baby Unit.
Jo said: “Before her death, Kelly had reached out to Jasmine Lodge with the hope of doing some fundraising to give something back. That’s why I chose to support Open Up - to honour Kelly’s wish and help ensure that others facing similar challenges receive the care and support they need.”
The Little Something Fund helps provide innovative projects and initiatives that fall outside of NHS services but are essential in aiding the recovery and wellbeing of mothers and their families. These projects offer additional care, comfort and connection at a time when it’s most needed.
