Words of wisdom that ring true can be found in the most unexpected of places and be delivered by the most unassuming of people. In today's Pause for Thought, Jez Brown, Lead Chaplain, shares his thoughts on one such modest philosopher. Jez says:
"Over the years I have read some excellent theological books that have educated and advised me. I have also read some fairly heavy books that would probably have been more use to me as door stops! They offered me every possible way of interpreting or understanding a particular Scripture, and then left me more confused as to what I thought after reading it than when I first referred to it!
"Not so with the great philosopher and theologian, Winnie the Pooh:
“When you are a Bear of very Little Brain, and you Think of Things, you find sometimes that a Thing which seemed very Thingish inside you is quite different when it gets out into the open and has other people looking at it.” - The House at Pooh Corner, by A.A.Milne
"Hear hear, Pooh!
"If we could only find a way of putting into words what we are holding onto deep inside - even if those words come with tears - then once the thingish stuff has been shared it can, well… lose some of its thingishness!
"It is always so much easier for us to ask others to share this stuff isn’t it? Why not be kind to yourself and share your thingishness with somebody else today?
"Why not give one of my fantastic team a call today and start to look at things differently?
