Congratulations to our Early Careers and Widening Participation Team who have achieved NHS England’s Work Experience Quality Gold Standard Award from Health Education England (HEE).
This nationally recognised quality standard award gives health care organisations and placement holders assurance that the face-to-face work experience offered reaches the highest possible standards. To be awarded the standard, Pauline Champion, Early Careers and Volunteer Co-ordinator, and Jo Horne, Apprenticeship Development Manager, undertook a self-assessment over a two-year period of their current process and practices. They used the required criteria to review and revise their practices. Then, they had to demonstrate the work experience placements offered were planned, delivered and evaluated.
The quality standard framework and criteria is broken down into six sections, each corresponding to a work experience placement:
Jo Horne said: “We know from research and evaluation that a quality work experience within Devon Partnership NHS Trust for people at all stages of their career is a fantastic way to gain insight into a particular career. It can also be a valuable way of getting some confidence and experience of working in a team and caring for people, more crucially it can support those future pipeline into the NHS.
"For the financial year 2023 to 2024, we have hosted a total of 94 individuals on a wide variety of work experience or placements, ranging from trainee police constables, ambulance staff, career changers and T-Level and health and social care students, nearly doubling the overall 2022 figure."
