New creativity based support group for people with dementia

'Creative Self-Care' is a new project starting in September which will be based in Exeter and is being funded by local charity Self-Heal Association.

This will be a supportive group for people who have been diagnosed within dementia within the past 12 months, and their carers. We will offer creative ways of exploring what living with dementia means to participants, helping them develop simple self-care skills, build resilience and connect with others in a similar situation.

Combining art-making, mindfulness and a sensory approach, we will explore a different theme each week. We will use a strengths-based approach, awakening the senses and encouraging an open, enquiring and nurturing spirit within the group.

The group will run on Mondays for six weeks from 2 September until 7 October. The venue is Newtown Community Hut, Belmont Park, Exeter.

Participation is free of charge and no previous experience is needed to take part.

To sign up, please email creativeselfcaredevon@gmail.com or telephone Carrie on 07871 260 960.
