Following the submission of our application a few months ago, Exeter City Council has now given planning consent for the new Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) to be built on the Wonford House site.
This is great news and is an important milestone in the process. It means we can now push forward with our plans to start building the new facility within a few months – and hopefully have it up and running by spring 2019.
The three floor unit, which centres around a landscaped courtyard garden, will consist of:
The development of the interim MBU – which will simply be called the Wonford House Mother and Baby Unit - continues as planned. Preparation and building work are forging ahead and the four bedroom facility is scheduled to open this spring. It is located inside Wonford House.
We are very pleased to announce the successful recruitment of the unit's Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr Laurie Windsor, who says: ‘I am really excited to be appointed as the Consultant and be part of this new MBU and outreach team. We have a real opportunity to help women, babies and their families right across the South West. I have enjoyed meeting many of the new MBU team and can sense a real sense of passion as we move forward with the project."
