Mediation service now available from the Devon Wellbeing Hub

Workplace misunderstandings and conflicts can cause considerable stress to those involved. As disagreement and tension deepens, complaints and even disciplinary procedures can be invoked.

At the Devon Wellbeing Hub, we provide mediation for colleagues working in eligible health and social care organisations.

Our trained mediators facilitate compassionate conversations between colleagues, who are in conflict, to work out a mutually acceptable way forward that will address issues, ideally before they escalate.

Mediation is about building and maintaining positive and professional working relationships, and the focus is on future behaviour rather than that of the past.

Christina Greenland, Clinical and Operational Lead for the Hub, said: “Workplace conflict is miserable. It can make the difference between looking forward to work and dreading it. It can affect you, your colleagues and even your family. At the Devon Wellbeing Hub we understand that mediation can feel daunting at first. However, our experience it that most people find it helpful and empowering. We are very passionate about this opportunity to help our colleagues restore their workplace wellbeing.”

A colleague who recently received mediation from the Hub said: “I very much appreciated the initial one-to-one appointment with the mediators prior to the mediation meeting which gave me the opportunity to discuss my concerns. The mediation meeting was well organised, and the furniture was rearranged to make everyone feel equal and comfortable. The mediators remained impartial, gave everyone the opportunity to speak fairly and freely; the mediators listened, and opened up the meeting for further, possibly difficult, discussion. Admittedly, I was relieved when the session ended, but was definitely beneficial to my wellbeing.”

Further information about when mediation is appropriate, what happens during the process and how to access the servicecan be found in our downloadable leaflet.
