Today we celebrate Learning Disability Nursing Day. Learning Disability Nurses work to provide specialist healthcare and support to people with a learning disability, as well as their families and carers, to help them live a fulfilling life.
Thank you to all of our professionals, including registered Learning Disability Nurses, Assistant Practitioners, Nursing Associates and Apprentices, for their continued hard work and dedication to people with learning disabilities and their families across Devon.
With our new Learning Disability and Autism Unit, The Brook, opening in Dawlish in 2025, recruitment of Learning Disability Nurses has been a focus recently. Watch our wonderful video created in partnership with experts by experience and view a webpage for The Brook, with more information about roles. The team are also holding an open day on Saturday 9 November for Healthcare Assistants.
We are continuously developing different routes into this rewarding branch of nursing, offering apprenticeship opportunities with Open University and Plymouth Marjon University. We currently have 20 Nursing Apprentices enrolled in these programmes, with qualifications expected between 2024 and 2027.
Learning Disability Nurses Day
The UK Learning Disability Consultant Nurse Network (UKLDCNN) has established this annual day to celebrate learning disability nurses and raise the profile on their profession as a positive career choice. They have worked in conjunction with the UK and Ireland based Learning/Intellectual Disability Nursing Academic Network (LIDNAN).
You can download a range of resources from the UKLDCNN and celebrate the day across social media by using the following hashtags #ChooseLDNursing, #InspireLDNursing and #LDNurseDay
