The Trust recently played host to a team of mental health professionals from Trieste in Italy. This follows a visit to Italy by Trust staff in 2006 who saw first hand how services have developed in Italy over the years. During their visit the delegates met senior managers and visited a variety of services including The Haldon Unit, Langdon Hospital, Teignbridge Older People’s Community Mental Health Team and New Leaf in Exminster and ended with a workshop with colleagues from Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust and Plymouth Teaching PCT. Welcoming the visitors from Italy, Trust Chief Executive Iain Tulley, said “I was delighted to be able to welcome colleagues from Trieste to Devon. From what they told me they found their visit informative and will be able to take away a number of positive examples of local practice.” The visitors from Trieste included three senior managers who are also doctors, a senior nurse and a psychologist. “We are hoping to develop a more formal involvement with different sites in the UK and Europe” Iain adds, “and will be looking to give staff the opportunity of being part of such ‘exchange visits’ in the future.”
