We are delighted to share the new Carers Strategy 2024 - 2027 which has been co-produced with our key stakeholders, including carer experts, carer ambassadors, carer community organisations and our staff.
The strategy puts carers at the heart of everything we do, and builds on existing developments and good practice from our 2018 - 2021 strategy to:
Chris Burford, Executive Chief Nursing Officer and Allied Professions Lead, expressed: “I am pleased to introduce this strategy which, working in tandem with the Triangle of Care, has the sole aim of improving the family and carer experience.
“We recognise and understand that carers play a vital and invaluable role in supporting those with mental health, learning disability and neurodiversity needs, and in working alongside our teams.”
The strategy sets out how we will achieve our vision and is part of our commitment to improving the experience of patients and carers. It is underpinned, and will be delivered by, a detailed action plan. The success of the strategy will be judged by feedback from carers, patients and staff, and our outcomes.
Debbie Frances, former Parent Carer and Co-Chair of the Carer Strategy Implementation Steering Group, said: “Looking after someone with a mental health problem can be hugely challenging – many carers experience significant physical, mental and financial effects as a result of their caring role. That is why this Carers’ Strategy is so important.”
The Carers’ Strategy Implementation Steering Group will monitor and support the implementation of the Carers’ Strategy across our organisation. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact the Together Team on dpt.together@nhs.net
