Improvements at The Cedars

If you have been at Wonford House lately you may have noticed some of The Cedars staff in their smart new uniforms. They are undertaking research into the wearing of uniforms in mental health settings.

Delderfield Ward Manager, Stephany Phillips, comments: “Whilst visiting other inpatient units nationally it became quite apparent that many other mental health organisations had introduced uniforms for nursing staff. On reviewing what Evidence Based Theory was around on how this decision was made, and what people who use services, carers, and family members thought, we noted that there is not much research. Therefore, via The Cedars Academy, it was agreed that we would commence a 12 month pilot into the wearing of uniforms and complete a research project to review its effectiveness. Most of the comments I have heard have been very positive and it has been well responded to by external agencies and care providers. A patient also stated to staff that she found it really useful to differentiate between staff members when she was really distressed.”
