Last week, during Mental Health Awareness Week, Susie Stamp, TALKWORKS Business Support Administrator, took on a two-day cycling challenge across Devon.
Susie wanted to raise awareness of the new name for the service as well as highlighting the benefits of exercise and raising money through our charity for the team.
Susie was also joined on the first leg by Nicola Reid, Matthew Holgate, Owain Winfield and Beki Flower from the TALKWORKS service.
Susie tells us how the ride went:
Day 1: "The day dawned bright and sunny as we all set off on the train to Barnstaple to begin our cycle journey back to Exeter. We started with a photo shoot at the North Devon Gazette and then set off down the Tarka Trail towards Okehampton. We stopped off at many locations along the way to promote the service and consumed large pieces of cake to keep us going. We arrived later than anticipated in Okehampton as I had underestimated the mileage and our marketing took up more time. Pasties and more cake consumed we continued on to Exeter against a strong easterly wind, again more useful contacts made along the journey. A great relief when we all arrived at TALKWORKS East & Mid and a bit of apprehension about setting off again the next day.
Day 2: "Another sunny day, this time from Exeter to Torbay, a lovely journey along the coast, with more contacts made and more cake consumed!! Arrived in Torbay feeling really pleased with how the ride and the marketing had gone. We all got on really well chatting along the way distracting us from the 115 miles, all with no major mechanical issues, just one broken mudguard. Time now to plan the next challenge!"
