Festive gift for secure services from HMP Channings Wood

Posted by Devon Partnership Trust in News on 22nd December, 2021

Festive gift made at HMP Channings WoodDuring this year patients at HMP Channings Wood have been provided with the opportunity to engage in a collaborative and co-produced horticulture group called 'Growing inside'. The group not only allows participants to learn about horticulture and gardening, but also supports individuals with developing other skills: including social skills and teamwork. Furthermore it supports physical and mental wellbeing. It creates a calm space for those residing in prison to relax, be present, and forget about their worries for a while.

Kirsty Lane, Patient Engagement Co-ordinator, said: "Feedback from those engaging has been incredibly positive, with some individuals expressing that they can forget they are in prison while being in the group setting.

"Those involved in this group have created festive pots containing hyacinths and narcissi and would like to give these gifts to staff during the festive period, as a way of ‘giving back’ and to say thank you. The pots are in festive colours and will have a label attached with a design which has been drawn by one of our patients who attended the group.

"We would also like to thank David Kroening-Maynard, Horticulturist from HMP Channings Wood, who has gone above and beyond throughout this year! We are looking forward to seeing what the spring brings."
