Chief Executive, Melanie Walker, to take well-earned break

Melanie Walker, Chief Executive of Devon Partnership NHS Trust for the last ten years, has decided to take a well-earned career break and will be leaving the organisation in June 2024.

Chair of the Board, Andy Willis, said: “Melanie will be a huge loss to the organisation, making a contribution that is impossible to summarise. On behalf of the Board and all of our staff, I would like to thank Melanie for an incredible 40 years of unstinting service to the NHS – the last ten of which have been as Chief Executive Officer here at DPT.

“Melanie has been a vocal and persuasive advocate for people with mental health, learning disability and neurodiversity needs over many years and is a passionate supporter of the equality, diversity and inclusion agenda. It is this passion and drive to make things better for the people we support that has led to so many developments and improvements under her leadership over the last ten years.

“Melanie was instrumental in creating our Together ethos and strategy. This places meaningful engagement with service users, carers, families, supporters and staff at the heart of everything we do and it has been a cornerstone of our approach to delivering services and supporting staff over the last decade.  In addition, Melanie has been at the forefront of countless local service improvements and regional and national initiatives during her tenure at DPT.  She has also overseen many major capital developments – including Jasmine Lodge, The Junipers and Salus ward.

“I am sure colleagues in partner organisations will wish her all the best for her career break and whatever she chooses to do next.  I know that many people will want to contact her personally to say your farewells before she moves on.”

In terms of leadership arrangements, Phill Mantay will continue to lead the Executive Team, as he has since October, in the role of Acting Chief Executive Officer.
