Carers Rights Day 2019

Posted by Devon Partnership Trust in Mental health, News on 21st November, 2019

In a collaboration between our organisation, carers, Devon Carers and Torbay Carers a podcast has been recorded for Carers Rights Day, which takes place today.

The podcast aims to answer four frequently asked questions from carers supporting someone with mental health challenges to carer support officers.

Click here to listen to the podcast or read the transcript of each question below.

These questions are in the carers’ own words:

1. How can I help someone who doesn’t want or doesn’t feel they need support with their mental health?

2. How can I find out about my loved one’s mental health condition and their treatment?

3. How do I stay safe when the person I love and care for is prone to aggressive outbursts, emotional and physically when they are struggling with their mental health?

4. How can I look after my emotional health as a carer?

The podcast answers to the questions are not intended to include everything for all carers, as each carer is unique. However, it is intended to give some advice and ideas for carers to build upon and adapt.
