Four Steps to Safety

We aim to reduce violence by 50% within our inpatient services by the end of August 2017.

This will be achieved by implementing Four Steps to Safety across all our inpatient wards.

What is four steps to safety?

Four Steps to Safety’ is a system for safer care that consists of the following four ‘steps’:

What are the aims?

  • To make wards safer
  • To improve care
  • To improve the environment for staff and patients
  • To increase interactions between staff and patients
  • To encourage proactive care and to identify potential causes and problems before they escalate.

How is this going to be done?

The changes that you will begin to notice on the ward are what we refer to as the interventions outlined in the different steps.
