Duty of Candour

Duty of Candour leafletA culture of openness, honesty and transparency

The Duty of Candour is a legal duty that requires our organisation to be open and candid if someone is harmed when in our care. This duty applies when the harm that has been sustained is classified as being moderate or above or there is thought to be psychological harm suffered for a sustained period as a result of a patient safety incident.

Our aim is to help people who use our services receive accurate and truthful information from health providers and for us to be open, honest and transparent when things go wrong in our services or when mistakes are made which harm the people we are supporting.
